Giants Fall 7-1 in Everett
January 30, 2015 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Vancouver Giants News Release
The Vancouver Giants lost the final game of their seven game road trip, falling 7-1 to the Everett Silvertips on Friday night at Xfinity Arena. Zane Jones had the Giants' lone goal.
The "Tips got on the board early when Patrick Bajkov tipped a point shot past Giants goalie Cody Porter just 1:39 into the game. Bajkov scored again on a power play, and Ivan Nikolishin rippled the mesh as well to give Everett a 3-0 first period lead. Jones, a former Silvertip, netted Vancouver's only goal of the evening in the late stages of the stanza when he threw a puck to the net from along the goal line, and it snuck past Silvertips net minder Austin Lotz on the short side.
The Giants had a strong start to the 2nd period, generating a number of scoring chances and forcing Lotz into some difficult saves. Vancouver couldn't find the net though, and Carson Stadnyk scored for Everett on a power play before Kevin Davis made it 5-1 just 36 seconds later, and the G-Men trailed by four goals after 40 minutes.
Bajkov scored his third of the night in the final frame while Stadnyk scored again as well.
The Giants will be back in action on Saturday when they host the Kamloops Blazers. It's Coast Spas Super Bowl Party Night at the Coliseum as the Giants will be in action the day before the big game. One lucky fan will go home with a luxury hot tub courtesy of Coast Spas while there will be a number of other prizes as well!
