Waterloo Black Hawks News Release
The Waterloo Black Hawks scored early on Friday at Young Arena and never let up during a 4-1 win against the Omaha Lancers.
For the third consecutive game, Ronnie Hein put his name on the scoresheet, lighting the lamp on the rebound of a Larry Jungwirth shot just 1:49 into the action. Waterloo struck again nearly nine minutes later; Phil Beaulieu capitalized on a rush into the offensive zone, flying a shot over the shoulder of goalie Zach Driscoll.
After limiting the Lancers to only two shots on goal in the first period, the Hawks continued to apply pressure in the second. Taking away a clearing attempt, Max Coatta and Tom Novak fed the puck to Henrink Rommel, who roofed a shot under the crossbar at 4:18. Although the Lancers generated a late flurry - which included a puck off the post - they still had just 7 total shots after 40 minutes.
Any comeback hopes the visitors might have harbored were greatly diminished just 12 seconds into the third period when Coatta stepped across the blue line to snap a shot under the crossbar. Omaha did record their lone goal of the contest with 8:15 remaining: it was a shorthanded tally as Brian Williams fed a pass from the end boards to Louie Rowe, who was camped below the hashmarks.
Cale Morris was at his busiest during the third, making nine stops. The best was a one-on-one opportunity midway through the third when the Hawks netminder made a clean glove save on Josh French. Morris picked up the win with 16 total stops. Waterloo outshot Omaha 39-17.
Friday's contest concluded a chain of three consecutive home games. The Hawks are on the road for their next matchup on Saturday against the Sioux City Musketeers.
