Mississippi RiverKings News Release
SOUTHAVEN, Miss. - When the Mississippi RiverKings host the Pensacola Ice Flyers Friday night for Heroes Night, the team will recognize and assist the efforts of Retrieving Freedom, Inc. (RFI), the MVP Non-profit of the game.
During Heroes Night the RiverKings will honor local police officers, firefighters and other real-life heroes. There will be a special tribute during the second intermission dedicated to all the local heroes in attendance.
Retrieving Freedom, Inc. is a 501(c)3 non-profit corporation that trains service dogs for placement into three main markets: veterans, children with autism and adults and children with Diabetes. It takes 24 months to train a service dog to meet the RFI standards for a successful placement with a person in need. RFI relies on donations and other assistance from people across the country as it costs around $25,000 to raise and train one service dog for placement.
"We are looking to raise community awareness," RFI Co-President Charles Dwyer said. "We are looking for community support and involvement and we want to let people know what Retrieving Freedom really is."
It's the first time RFI has been the MVP Non-profit of the game with the RiverKings. Fundraising tickets for RFI are being sold through their website and tickets have been sold to people all over the country and donated back to the Mid-South area to give to children in need. People can help RFI with donations or by offering their home to foster a future RFI dog.
The RiverKings are back home Friday, Jan. 30 against the Pensacola Ice Flyers for Heroes Night presented by Delta Medical Center. The RiverKings honor our local police officers, firefighters, doctors and other real-life heroes during the game. Single-game tickets can be purchased at riverkings.com/ticketmaster and groups of 15 or more get a discount, with group tickets starting at $8 per ticket, by calling the front office at 662-342-1755.
