SETTING THE SCENE
The Oilers and Beast are facing off for the third time this season. Tulsa is 2-0-0 against Brampton with a 4-1 victory on December 12 and a 5-4 overtime triumph on January 2. Both previous contests were played at the BOK Center and all-time, the Oilers are 5-0-0 on home ice against the Beast. Adam Pleskach and Drew Fisher are the top two scorers on the Tulsa roster and both forwards have recorded five points in two games against Brampton.
HOME GAMES ON THE HORIZON
A seven-game road trip that spanned three weeks and saw the Oilers cover nearly 5,000 miles finally came to an end in Missouri on Friday. The Oilers went 3-3-1 on the trek and return to the BOK Center this Thursday for the first time since January 4 to begin a stretch of four consecutive home games. With 30 games left in the regular season, only ten points separate second place from sixth place in the Central Division.
THE OTHER RAMSAY
Rookie forward Brady Ramsay (no relation to Head Coach Bruce Ramsay) is making his Oilers debut tonight after being acquired from the Ontario Reign earlier this week. A 5-foot-11, 180-pound winger, Ramsay appeared in 13 games for the Reign this season and recorded five points (2 goals, 3 assists) along with 31 penalty minutes. The native of Calgary, Alberta posted a +6 rating during his time in Ontario. Prior to turning pro, Ramsay played four seasons for the Lethbridge Hurricanes of the Western Hockey League. In the 2013-14 campaign, his final year of junior hockey, Ramsay led the Hurricanes in assists (27), points (42), and penalty minutes (142). Immediately following his junior career, Ramsay got his first taste of professional hockey as an amateur with the Stockton Thunder. He registered one assist and ten penalty minutes in three games for the Thunder.
LARKE LIGHTS IT UP
Tulsa winger Matt Larke is riding a five-game point streak, the longest current streak on the team. The 27-year old has two goals, four assists, and a +3 rating over the course of the streak. Larke scored his 100th career goal in Orlando on January 17 and is now over 250 points in his seven-year career.
SIN CITY
The Oilers recorded 46 penalty minutes against the Mavericks on Friday, their third highest penalty total of the season. Tulsa ranks fourth in the ECHL in total penalty minutes (851) and fifth in penalty minutes per game (20.26).
BETTER WITH AGE
Drew Fisher has already set new career-highs this season in assists and points and needs to find the net just three more times to set a new career-high for goals. The third-year pro has already posted 43 points (14 goals, 29 assists) in 38 games to easily surpass his rookie total of 40 points in 66 games. Fisher has spent his entire pro career in Tulsa and ranks 20th on the Oilers' all-time list of games played (175).
MENDOZA LINE
Over the last four games, the Oilers have allowed an average of 4.75 goals per game and have given up at least four goals in each contest. When surrendering four goals or more this season, Tulsa has a 7-15-1 record.
OIL DROPS
Defenseman Jake Obermeyer needs just four more games to reach 300 for his career...The Oilers have outscored their opponent in the third period only one time in the last six games...Tulsa has a +9 goal differential in the first period but a combined -24 differential over the second and third periods...With an open date last Saturday, January 24th and no game scheduled for January 31st, the Oilers will enjoy back-to-back Saturdays off for the one and only time all season.
