Thunder Add Defensive Back Depth
January 28, 2015 - Arena Football League (AFL)
Portland Thunder News Release
PORTLAND - The Portland Thunder have acquired former Hampton University defensive back Scott Williams, head coach Mike Hohensee announced on Wednesday.
"Scott is a contact player, who flies to the ball carrier, for someone of his size," Hohensee stated. "We are excited by that physicality, and we believe it will translate well to our game."
Williams (6-4, 220) enters his first AFL season in a Thunder uniform. Scott played all four years as a safety for Hampton, and posted exceptional numbers in his sophomore and junior seasons. Altogether, Williams appeared 34 times for the Pirates, tallying 99 tackles, 18 pass break ups, and four fumble recoveries.
Scott is a native of Springfield, Virginia, and prepped at nearby Blue Ridge High School.
The Thunder are set to open training camp on March 4th.
