Greenville Swamp Rabbits News Release

LAST WEEK'S RECAP

Overall Picture: The Greenville Road Warriors (25-14-3), proud ECHL affiliate of the New York Rangers and the AHL's Hartford Wolf Pack, went beyond regulation in a pair of road games last week and notched two hard-earned points against the Orlando Solar Bears at the Amway Center.

On Friday, the Road Warriors peppered Orlando netminder Garrett Sparks with 51 shots, including a franchise-record 23 in the first period, but suffered a 4-3 setback following a four-round shootout. Forwards Kyle Jean, Josh Nicholls and Chris McCarthy each scored in the third period to help erase a pair of two-goal deficits, but the visitors were shutout in the shootout while Carson McMillan and Denver Manderson both scored for the Solar Bears. Goaltender Jason Missiaen (9-5-2) made 38 saves in the loss.

The plot was eerily similar on Saturday as the Road Warriors set a season-high in shots (52) and battled back from a two-goal deficit in the third period, but fell to the Solar Bears in overtime, 3-2. Forward Trevor Parkes netted both goals for Greenville including the game-tying tally at 10:18 of the third, but Orlando's Jacob Cepis notched the game-winner with 2:06 remaining in overtime with a blast from the high slot. Between the pipes, Sparks again dominated the contest and set a Solar Bears' single-game record with 50 saves, while All-Star goaltender Jeff Malcolm (15-8-1) stopped 28 shots for the Warriors.
