Madison Capitols News Release

CAPITOLS' 4TH LINE SHINES AT LABAHN

The Madison Capitols received large contributions from their fourth line in a 3-2 overtime defeat to the Lincoln Stars on Weds., Jan. 21 at LaBahn Arena. Hunter Luhmann (White River Junction, Vt.) picked up his second goal in as many games to open the scoring, while Luke McElhenie (Sauk City, Wis.) added his third goal of the regular season and first goal that was not shorthanded. In between the pipes, Garrett Metcalf followed up his 35-save shutout in Youngstown that earned him USHL Goaltender of the Week honors with a stable 23-save performance.

THUNDER SKATE OFF WITH WIN OVER CAPITOLS

The Bloomington Thunder picked up their second win in as many meetings over the Capitols by securing a 5-1 win on Friday at the U.S. Cellular Coliseum in Bloomington. Charlie Gerard (Rocky River, Ohio) got the Capitols on the board late in the second period to claw Madison back to within two goals, but the Capitols could not draw any closer. With the loss, Madison has fallen in five of the last eight contests; they begin a five-game homestand on Friday, Jan. 30 against the Chicago Steel.

FIVE-GAME HOMESTAND PRESENTS IMPORTANT TEST

Currently resting at 40 points (17-11-6), Madison sits three points behind fourth-place Youngstown (19-11-5) for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. Madison and Youngstown still have two more head-to-head matchups on Feb. 7-8 at the Alliant Energy Center. The Capitols swept the Phantoms by final scores of 4-0 and 5-3 on Jan. 16-17 at Covelli Centre. The Capitols kick off their longest homestand of the regular season on Friday, Jan. 30 against the Chicago Steel. The Steel have captured each of the first two meetings against Madison. The Capitols will also welcome Omaha (Jan. 31) and Waterloo (Feb. 6) to the Coliseum for the first time.
