Royals Invite 23 Players to Major League Spring Training

KANSAS CITY, MO (January 26, 2015) - The Kansas City Royals announced today that the 2014 American League Champions have invited 23 non-roster players to Major League Spring Training in Surprise, Ariz. Among the invitations are 10 pitchers, three catchers, seven infielders and three outfielders.
Included in the 23 invitees are 15 players that were in the Royals' organization last season. Left-handed pitchers Scott Alexander (sixth round, 2010), Buddy Baumann (seventh round, 2009), Chris Dwyer (fourth round, 2009) and Sean Manaea (Competitive Balance Round - 34th overall, 2013); right-handed pitcher Christian Binford (30th round, 2011); catchers Cam Gallagher (second round, 2011) and Parker Morin (14th round, 2012); infielders Hunter Dozier (first round - eighth overall, 2013) and Whit Merrifield (ninth round, 2010) and outfielders Brett Eibner (second round, 2010) and Bubba Starling (first round - fifth overall, 2011) were all drafted by the Royals. Right-handed pitcher Miguel Almonte and infielder Raul Mondesi both signed as a non-drafted free agents. Right-handed pitcher Casey Coleman and first baseman Matt Fields both played in the Royals' system in 2014. Other non-roster invitees include: left-handed pitcher Joe Paterson, right-handed pitchers Brian Broderick and Ryan Madson, catcher J.C. Boscan, infielders Ryan Jackson, Gabriel Noriega and Ryan Roberts and outfielder Moises Sierra.
Pitchers and catchers will report to Surprise on Thursday, February 19. Workouts for pitchers begin the following day, Friday, February 20. The remainder of the squad will report on Tuesday, February 24 and begin workouts for the 2015 campaign on Wednesday, February 25.
