Everblades Rally Past Stingrays to Close Road Trip with Win

January 25, 2015 - ECHL (ECHL)
Florida Everblades News Release

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC -- The Florida Everblades scored three goals in a 3:37 span in the third period to rally past the South Carolina Stingrays by a 3-2 score at the North Charleston Coliseum Sunday afternoon. The Everblades (26-7-1-3, 56pts) will return home with three of a possible six points on the three game weekend road trip.

South Carolina stung first when Nathan Walker delivered a breakaway pass to Caleb Herbert down the ice. Herbert made several deke moves before lifting the puck high past a diving goaltender Andy Iles for the goal .

The Stingrays added to their lead in the second period on the power play. Marcus Perrier delivered a pass to the right of the crease to Walker. Walker paused for a second to freeze up Iles who then lunged to knock the puck away. Walker dipped right around the outstretched goaltender and stuff the puck into the open net to give South Carolina a 2-0 lead after 40 minutes of play.

The Stingrays continued to shutdown the 'Blades for much of third, but that all changed when defenseman Wade Epp was handed a four-minute double-minor at 10 :23 of the period to put Florida on the power play.

The Everblades took advantage at 11:13 when Mitch Wahl delivered a pass across to Mike Little at the right wing circle. Little flipped the puck past by Stingrays goaltender Adam Morrison for the power play marker.

Little's goal came before the first penalty expired, leaving the 'Blades on the power play for another two minutes. Florida converted as Wahl again played the set up man. Wahl perfectly placed a pass across the crease right on the tape of Alex Aleardi who instantly flexed the puck into the net for the tying goal. Aleardi was reassigned to the Everblades from AHL Charlotte prior to Sunday's game.

The Everblades capped off the rally less than two minutes later when South Carolina turned the puck over at their own blue line. Adam Brace picked the puck up for Florida and delivered a pass in front to a wide open Alex Lavoie. Lavoie angled the puck behind Morrison for the go-ahead goal.

Iles and company took care of the rest and closed out the game and road trip with the 3-2 victory. Iles earns the win stopping 26 of 29 shots while Morrison takes the loss allowing three goals on 26 shots.

The two teams will meet again on Wednesday at Germain Arena. Game details and promotions listed below.
