January 25, 2015 - ECHL (ECHL)
Reading Royals News Release

ROYALS PRE-GAME NOTES

- This afternoon, the Royals continue a five game road trip that began last night with a 2-1 win over the South Carolina Stingrays at North Charleston Coliseum in Charleston, South Carolina. After today's game, the Royals visit the Evansville Icemen for the fourth and final time on Wednesday (January 28).

The Royals then travel to Indiana Farmers Coliseum in Indianapolis, Indiana, for the third time this season on Friday (January 30); and the team finishes this trip with the first visit of the season to U.S.

Bank Arena in Cincinnati, Ohio, to face the Cincinnati Cyclones on Saturday (January 31).

- This afternoon's contest between the Royals and Gladiators is the only regular season matchup between these two teams this year.

- After Saturday's win in South Carolina, the Royals are riding a three game win streak, marking the fifth time this year that Reading has won three (or more) consecutive games. (The season long win streak is five games: 12/17 - 12/27/14).

- Reading has won four of the team's last five games, twelve of the last sixteen and fifteen of the last twenty games played.

- Saturday's win over the Stingrays pushed Reading's record to a season-high eleven games over .500 (24- 11-1-1=50).

- Last night's victory was only the second win in the fourteen year history of the Royals at North Charleston Coliseum (2-7-1-1).

- Saturday's game marked the tenth time this season that Reading has held the opposition to one goal or less (10-0-0-0).

- The Royals scored the first goal of the game in Saturday's victory. The team has compiled a record of 16- 4-0-1 when scoring the game's first goal (and 7-3-0-0 on the road).

- Andrew Johnston scored the game's first goal 15:11 into the first period of Saturday's win in Charleston. It was his fifth goal of the year-three of which have come in his last five games. It was also Johnston's second 'first goal' of the season. (He also scored the game's first goal in Reading's 6-2 win over the Brampton Beast on January 11.)

- Ian Watters factored in both goals (1g-1a) for the Royals on Saturday night. His goal, which came 10:03 into the second period, proved to be a tie-breaking game winner-and his first GWG as a Royal. This was his second multi-point performance of the season. Watters, who has seven points (2g-5a) in his last seven games, also played plus-2 in Saturday's win. He is currently second on the team in plus- minus, playing plus-11 (+11) through twenty-eight games with the Royals.

- Mike Marcou registered an assist on the Royals' first goal on Saturday in Charleston. That was his twenty-fifth point of the season (4g-21a), which places him tied eighth amongst defensemen in the ECHL. His twenty-one assists are tied for fifth most amongst d-men in the league.

- Pat Mullane engaged in his second tilt of the season when he fought Derek DeBlois 17:48 into the first period of Saturday's game against the Stingrays.

- Reading gave up a season high 21 shots to South Carolina in the second period of Saturday's win.

- The Royals, who entered Saturday's game leading the league with an average of 33.79 shots on goal per game, recorded a season low nineteen shots on South Carolina on Saturday night.

- Goaltender Connor Knapp made a personal season high thirty-eight saves to record his third consecutive victory and his team-leading twelfth win of the season. Knapp has won seven of his last nine decisions for the Royals.

- Reading's penalty kill knocked off all three chances on the power play for South Carolina on Saturday. Reading is 17-4-1-1 when blanking the opponent's power play.
