Lancers Double-Up Stars 6-3 in Front of 3,849

RALSTON, NE - Shane Gersich scored a hat trick and Jakob Forsbacka-Karlsson added three assists as the Omaha Lancers defeated the Lincoln Stars in front of a sellout crowd of 3,849 at Ralston Arena on Saturday night.

Omaha electrified the packed Ralston Arena just 4:32 into the opening period while on the power-play. Louie Rowe, Nick Rivera, and Anthony Angello crashed the net on a shot trying to locate the loose puck. Finally, Rivera found it and fired it by goaltender Cam Hackett for a 1-0 lead. The goal was Rivera's second goal in as many night and assists were credited to Angello and Rowe for a 1-0 lead.

A shot from the point tied the game a couple minutes after the Lancers took the initial lead. On a faceoff win by the Stars, Connor Frantti took the puck from the right point and shot it through traffic, off the post, and into the net to beat Omaha's netminder Zach Driscoll to even the score up 1-1 at the 7:40 mark of period one. Patrick Polino had the only assist on Frantti's first goal of the season.

A great individual effort by Michael Wilson gave the Lancers their second lead of the night. Wilson went around the defense to pick up the puck below the goal line. Wilson had one hand on his stick and pushed the puck out to a wide open Shane Gersich who snapped in his team leading 19th goal of the season for a 2-1 lead at 13:51 of the first period with Wilson claiming the only assist on the goal.

In the second period, Gersich converted again to give the Lancers a 3-1 lead just 4:58 after the puck dropped. Hank Crone forced a turnover as Lincoln tried to breakout the puck in their defensive zone. Crone dished the puck to Gersich who ripped the puck over the left shoulder of Cam Hackett for the two goal lead. With the goal, Gersich hit the 20-goal mark on the season and Crone picked up the assist.

The Stars responded on the power-play with a tap-in goal for Ludvig Hoff. At 8:56 of the second period, the puck was played out to the front of the net and Hoff tapped in the loose puck for his 11th of the year and 3rd goal against Omaha this season to pull Lincoln back within a goal. Assists were credited to Grant Jozefek and Waltteri Hopponen and Omaha led 3-2 after the Hoff goal.

A power-play goal with only 18.6 left in the second period by Anthony Angello sent the Lancers back out to a two goal lead. Jimmy Schuldt took a pass from Jakob Forsbacka-Karlsson and let a shot go that was stopped by the leg pad of Cam Hackett. The rebound went right to Angello and he tallied his 10th goal of the year with assists from Forsbacka-Karlsson and Schuldt for a late 4-2 lead over Lincoln.

Just when the Lancers thought they would hold a 4-2 lead after two periods, the Stars came back to get a goal of their own to once again make it a one goal game. Dylan Woolf went hard to the net and tapped in the pass from Grant Jozefek with only 1.8 seconds left in the second period. After two periods, the Lancers led 4-3 and were outshooting Lincoln 31-15.

In the third period Omaha added to their lead, scoring twice. Nash Worden took a pass and quick got it to Jakob Forsbacka-Karlsson who sent it across the top of the crease right to Matt Meier for his second goal with the Lancers and a 5-3 lead just 3:20 into the third period!

Shane Gersich capped off the hat trick with the sixth and final goal of the night for the Lancers on a rebound in front of the net to give Omaha a 6-3 advantage with only 2:50 left in the game. The goal was his third of the night and 21st of the season.

Zach Driscoll won his fifth game of the year stopping 21 of 24 shots he faced from Lincoln.
