Albany Devils News Release

ALBANY, NY -- Scott Wedgewood made 38 saves and Paul Thompson's late-game heroics forced overtime, but the Albany Devils lost, 2-1, against the Worcester Sharks Saturday at Times Union Center.

The Devils, who haven't lost in regulation since Jan. 11, extended their point streak to six games (4-0-2-0). After a home-and-home series with the Sharks, Albany moved to 20-14-4-5 overall, while Worcester improved to 22-15-3-2.

"Anytime you get points it's good," said Reid Boucher, who drew a penalty that led to the tying goal. "We've been playing good hockey the last couple of weeks and we are starting to climb a little bit. We have to keep that up after the break."

In the remaining minutes of overtime, NHL regular Tomas Hertl made a quick wrap-around pass to Dylan Demelo who was ready in front for a one-timer at 4:04.

"He comes in on that straight angle and you have to play him true," Wedgewood said. "He kind of pumped a little fake and rolled to his backhand. He's a good player and I kind of went down and then made a desperation split slide to the other side. He wrapped it off my hand and you have no idea that guy's high and he got it right to his stick."

The Devils were able to get to overtime when Thompson picked the upper right corner with 4:09 remaining in regulation. Joe Whitney's shot moments before deflected off Kelly Zajac and hit the crossbar. Thompson was there for the loose puck.

"We thought their goalie looked a little shaky," said Head Coach Rick Kowalsky. "We didn't put enough pucks on him. We scored a few quick goals on him last night, but Thompson came up big again. He has been our guy all year scoring clutch goals and he did that again tonight."

Gus Young opened the scored at 19:01 of the second period on a point shot that redirected off a Devils stick.

That goal was Wedgewood's only blemish in regulation. He was active early, making 29 saves through two periods.

"I felt good," Wedgewood said. "Everything was kind of clear and easy for me to make my saves and guys did what they had to do to keep our pucks out of the net."

At the other end, J.P. Anderson made 20 saves for his sixth win.
