Sudbury Wolves News Release

The Saginaw Spirit visited the Sudbury Wolves for the only time this season on Friday night. The Wolves played hard giving the crowd something to cheer about but were stopped by red-hot goaltender, DAVID OVSJANNIKOV.

It was an even match up through the first period with both teams going back and forth generating scoring chances at both ends. It was Saginaw who struck first with TYE FELHABER beat Wolves' goaltender TROY TIMPANO unassisted. DANNY DESROCHERS tried to get the fans into the game halfway through the frame when he dropped the gloves with CONNOR BROWN. Shots on goal after the first were 10-9 in favour of the Spirit.

The Wolves were all over the Spirit in the second period but had trouble beating OVSJANNIKOV. DANNY DESROCHERS tied the game up 1-1 halfway through the second, however Saginaw responded on the power play when JACOB RINGUETTE scored to retake the lead with four minutes remaining in the frame. Shots on goal at the end of the second were 35-18 in favour of the Wolves.

The teams exchanged goals once again in the third with MATT SCHMALZ and DEVON PALIANI making it 3-2 Saginaw. Despite a hard fought game by the Wolves, they could not put any more pucks past the Saginaw goaltender and fell by a final score of 3-2 to the Spirit. The final shots on goal were 46-24 for the Wolves.

The Wolves will now travel to North Bay Sunday afternoon to take on the Battalion at 1:00pm. Fans can follow the Wolves on the road by tuning into the live play-by-play on KFM 95.5 or watch on Eastlink TV, channel 10.
