Odessa Jackalopes News Release

ODESSA, TX - After a tough rodeo road trip, the Jackalopes were looking forward to getting back home to Ector County Coliseum, where the Jacks had a 5-6-2 record. Coming into town was the Jackalopes biggest nemesis over their three-plus years of existence, the Amarillo Bulls. The Bulls had won 31 of the previous 32 regular season games against the Jacks. However, the Jacks one victory did come in the Ector County Coliseum in 2013-14. Making the start in goal for the Jacks was Robin Johansson. Johansson's last start came all the way back on December 12, 2014. Tanner Creel got the night off, after making ten consecutive starts. The Bulls countered with Anton Martinsson, who had been a perfect 4-0-0 against the Jacks this season.

The Jackalopes got onto the Bulls early. From the first shift of the game, the Jacks pressured Amarillo's defense corps from the outset and were rewarded at 1:37 of the period. Bulls star Cody Gylling turned the puck over on the boards to Kenny Hausinger (Sacred Heart) who found Razmuz Waxin-Engback off to the right side of the goal. Raz slid in his 14th tally of the season to give the Jacks a 1-0 lead. The Bulls answered the charge at 9:07 of the period, when Defenseman Ben Jentsch (YENTCH) took a shot from the blueline that fooled Robin Johansson. The puck found it's way to the back of the net, tying things at 1-1. The Bulls then took the lead at 13:45, when the Jacks turned the puck over in their own zone and Brady Crabtree found himself in the clear. He pulled the puck past Johansson right pad to give the Bulls a 2-1 lead. The Jacks controlled play in the first, outshooting the Bulls, 20-8.

The Jacks were looking to build off momentum for period one, with a good start in the second. At 4:46, the Jacks knotted the game at two when Hampus Sjodahl found Danny Kiraly flying down the left wing. Kiraly made a nice move to get around the goaltender and scored on the backhand. The Jacks would cash in two more times in the period. At 7:15, Corey Hoffman (Cornell) finished off a great pass from Derek Brown (Niagara) for his fifth goal of the season to give the Jacks a 3-2 lead. In the final minute as a Jacks power play expired, Drew McLean finished an opportunity that came off a slap shot from the blueline from Lane Valimont that missed the net, hit the back boards, and came right to McLean. His fourth of the year gave the Jacks a 4-2 lead at the break.

The Bulls, sensing the game escaping their grasp, leaned on their leading scoring Cody Gylling (Arizona State) to get them back in the game and he did not disappoint. Gylling scored his 20th of the season and 50th career NAHL goal at 1:02 of the period to cut the Jacks lead to 4-3. The Jacks answered back. Captain Chad Guderian finished a three-on-one break with a one-timer from the slot area for his fifth tally of the season, giving the Jacks a 5-3 advantage. The Bulls mounted another effort and Luke Novak scored at 14:10 to make it 5-4 in favor of Odessa. When the Bulls pulled their goalie late, Hampus Sjodahl netted his 12th goal of the season and third point of the evening to ice it for the Jacks, 6-4.

The Jacks finish up a two-game set with the Bulls tomorrow night at the JackShack in Odessa. For tickets, call (432) 552-7825 or visit us online at http://www.jackalopes.org/
