Manchester Monarchs News Release

PROVIDENCE, RI - The Monarchs surrendered a power-play goal in overtime as they fell in their final game before the All-Star break, 2-1 at Providence on Friday night.

Manchester (26-10-4-2) has earned at least one point in three of its last four games. The club fell to 4-2-1-0 against the Bruins (20-17-5-1) this season.

Patrik Bartosak made a career-high 41 saves, but fell to 7-6-3 on the season. It was the 10th time in 16 games this season he allowed two goals or less.

Brian O'Neill and Nick Shore each played in their first AHL game since Jan. 10. Jeff Schultz played in his first game for Manchester since being recalled to Los Angeles on Dec. 19, and Scott Sabourin played for the first time since Dec. 5.

O'Neill put the Monarchs on the board with 16 seconds remaining in the first period when he took a feed from Shore and buried a wrist shot at 19:44 in the first. It was his 11th goal of the season and team-high 44th point.

David Warsofsky's second goal of the season tied the score at 1-1 13:53 into the second period.

Both teams registered 12 shots in the third period, but neither club scored, sending the game into overtime.

Michael Mersch was awarded a penalty shot in OT after getting hooked on a breakaway, but Malcolm Subban made the save.

Alexander Khokhlachev netted the game-winning goal 4:24 into OT after Shore was called for a tripping penalty at 3:19.

The Monarchs are off for the All-Star break, with the 2015 All-Star Classic presented by Turning Stone Resort Casino taking place on Sunday and Monday. They will return to action on Jan. 30 when they host Portland in a VIP Cup Series matchup at 7 p.m.

Notes:

Brian O'Neill's goal was his first since Dec. 26 at Worcester. The Monarchs have four wins, four losses, one shootout win and two shootout losses in 11 overtime games this season. With Springfield's loss to Hartford tonight, the Monarchs still have the most points in the Eastern Conference with 58.
