PA Rebellion Acquire Former NPF Rookie of the Year Kristyn Sandberg

Washington, PA-January 23, 2014-The Pennsylvania Rebellion announced today the acquisition of Kristyn Sandberg from the USSSA Pride.

Sandberg was the Pride's catcher and designated hitter for the past two seasons. Sandberg is a native of Island Park, New York and a three-year veteran of the NPF. In her rookie season, the 2012 Miken NPF Rookie of the Year saw action in 36 games, making 93 plate appearances. Last season for USSSA, Sandberg hit six homeruns and 17 RBI and won her second NPF Championship Title.

"Sandberg is a significant addition to the roster. She will add power, and she will solidify the middle of our batting order," Rebellion General Manager Zavacky said. "We are extremely fortunate to have her veteran leadership in the locker room and on the field."

To acquire Sandberg, the Rebellion completed a three team transaction which sent Rebellion players Taylor and Tatum Edwards to Chicago.

"Taylor and Tatum had outstanding rookie seasons with the Rebellion in 2014," Zavacky said. "Taylor was the team's second round selection (eighth overall) in the 2014 NPF Draft and batted .241 with three home runs and 13 RBI. Tatum was a key part of our bullpen and pitched in many important innings throughout the 2014 season."

In addition to acquiring Sandberg, the Rebellion improved its 2015 draft position as a result of this transaction. The Rebellion gave up their 11th pick in the draft in order to receive the 6th and 14th picks.
