Bullfrogs Ink Two More Returning Players

January 22, 2015 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Green Bay Rockers News Release

Green Bay, Wis.- The Green Bay Bullfrogs have netted two more players from the 2014 roster that look to make another meaningful impact this season. The first is pitcher Michael Ellenbest who brings a 6'4" frame as a starter back to Green Bay. The second is the speedy outfielder, Paul Jacobson, a premier defensive asset heading into 2015.

Ellenbest, hailing from Division II Saginaw Valley State, comes back to Green Bay after posting 10 starts and 12 appearances last summer. He was only one of three players to log double-digit starts for the Bullfrogs in 2014. Ellenbest also managed to record four wins, the second most on the starting staff. In a pre-fireworks start on July 3rd, 2014, Ellenbest tossed eight innings surrendering just three hits and no runs as the Bullfrogs defeated La Crosse. Ellenbest sports a strong off-speed selection and a fastball that ticks in the mid-to-high 80s.

"The experience in the Northwoods League is by far one of the greatest," said Ellenbest. "You are going out every day playing the game you love in front of people who the love the game just as much as you do."

Manning left field again at Joannes Stadium is Paul Jacobson, an academic honor roll athlete from South Dakota State. The Iowa high school product led the 2014 Green Bay squad in doubles (14), and from June 22-27, compiled a six-game hitting streak. During that stretch, Jacobson was 10 of 21 at the plate with five runs scored. Defensively, Jacobson was one of the better corner outfielders in the Northwoods League. In 52 outfield games, Jacobson recorded just one error and four assists. His. 987 fielding percentage was tops on the team of a player with 30 games played or more.

"Playing in front of the fans that we do and the experience you get with the competition and the way you can grow as a player, there's nothing else like it. It's awesome," said Jacobson. "I think I really gained a true appreciation for the game. I learned to love the game even more last summer."

The Bullfrogs will open up the 2015 season at home on May 26th against the La Crosse Loggers. Group tickets, season tickets and 7-game packages are on sale now. The Bullfrogs off-season hours are Monday through Friday from 9am to 5pm. For more information please visit www.greenbaybullfrogs.com.
