ORLANDO, Fla. - The ECHL All-Stars defeated the Orlando Solar Bears 8-4 on Wednesday at Amway Center before 9,288 fans in the 2015 CCM/ECHL All-Star Classic presented by Visit Orlando.
Olivier Archambault, named to the starting lineup and representing the Alaska Aces for the ECHL All-Stars, scored two goals to help put the game away in the third period. Myles Bell of the Evansville IceMen was named the Most Valuable Player of the game with two goals, including the game-winning tally.
Orlando's Scott Tanski earned the only goal of the opening period and Curtis Valk of Kalamazoo helped the ECHL All-Stars tie the game, 2:27 into the second period on a feed to Danick Gauthier, at the front of the net.
Brendan Walker lifted the All-Stars to a 2-1 lead at 3:51, but Carson McMillan fired a wrister from the right circle past Greenville goaltender Jeff Malcolm. Bell restored the All-Stars lead at 3-2, 11:59 into second on another wrister from the right circle past new goaltender Sean Bonar. Utah's Alex Krushelnyski then beat Bonar, stick side for a 4-2 lead on a helper from Collin Bowman.
The ECHL All-Stars extended their lead to 5-2 with 34 seconds left on Bell's second goal of the game on a deflection from a loose puck elevated halfway up to the crossbar.
Orlando's Nick Larson of Orlando started the scoring in the third and cut the deficit to 5-3 at 3:32, but Archambault bumped the lead to 6-3 at the 5:43 mark as he roofed a shot at the top of the goal mouth. Spencer McAvoy beat Olivier Roy at 6:43, but Archambault's second goal of the night at 11:12 was a finish off an outnumbered attack for a 7-4 advantage.
Riley Brace finished the scoring at 16:34 of the final period.
Alaska returns from the All-Star break to host the Idaho Steelheads, opening a nine-game homestand, on Friday, Jan. 23 at Sullivan Arena and beginning at 7:15 p.m. (GCI/KFQD).
