Southern Maryland Blue Crabs News Release

WALDORF, MD- The Minnesota Twins have signed Blue Crabs catcher Allan de San Miguel to a minor league deal.

An Australian native, de San Miguel, 26, was drafted by the Twins in 2005. Reaching as high as AAA Rochester with the Twins, he remained in Minnesota's farm system until he was signed by the Baltimore Orioles in 2012. De San Miguel moved through the Orioles to the AAA level but was released prior to the 2014 season.

A defensive specialist, de San Miguel holds a career fielding percentage of .989 behind home plate with a handful of spot starts at first base and right field. In his 2014 season with the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs, de San Miguel appeared in 61 games and posted a batting average of .203 and an impressive .998 fielding percentage, committing only one error in 403 changes.

"Seeing Allan de San Miguel get signed by the Twins is perfect example of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball being the quickest route for players to get back into affiliated baseball," Blue Crabs General Manager Pat Day said. "Allowing a player like de San Miguel to get quality playing time behind the plate in Southern Maryland made it easy for an affiliated club to get a good idea of his progress and defensive ability. I wish him nothing but the best."
