Ryan Murphy Assigned to AHL

RALEIGH, NC - Ron Francis, Executive Vice President and General Manager of the National Hockey League's Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the Hurricanes have assigned defenseman Ryan Murphy to the Charlotte Checkers of the American Hockey League (AHL).

Murphy, 21, has earned five assists in 16 NHL games for the Hurricanes this season. The Aurora, Ont., native leads all Charlotte skaters in assists this season with 17 helpers in 23 AHL games. On Jan. 6, Murphy was selected to participate in the 2015 AHL All-Star Classic, which will be held on Jan. 25-26 in Utica, NY. The Hurricanes' first round selection, 12th overall, in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft, Murphy has skated in 68 career NHL games with Carolina, totaling 17 points (2g, 15a).

Murphy has 17 points in 23 games for the Checkers this season and was named to the 2015 AHL All Star Classic. With this move, he is expected to participate in the event.

The Checkers begin a three-in-three this Wednesday on the road in Norfolk.
