Atlanta Gladiators News Release
DULUTH, Ga. - In their earliest game of the season, the Gladiators (12-21-1-1) hosted the Indy Fuel (10-21-1-1) in their lowest scoring game of the year, a 1-0 game that edged Indy's way Monday afternoon. Kyle Stroh scored the only goal of the match, and Mac Carruth recorded the 26-save shutout for the opposition.
The two teams played an evenly matched first period of their very first meeting in franchise history. The Gladiators had the slight upper hand, keeping Indy to just 4 shots on goal, while putting up 10 themselves. However, both teams left the ice after the first period without a goal on the board.
The second period took a turn marginally in Indy's favor, as they outshot the Gladiators, 11 to 3. They were fueled by several power plays as the physicality of the game intensified and the Gladiators got the short end of the stick, racking up 3 of the 4 called penalties in the period. After 40 minutes of play, neither team was still able to find net.
The Gladiators went a perfect 4 for 4 on the penalty kill against the Fuel, who are ranked fourth in the league in power play conversions.
Gwinnett appeared to take the momentum back in the final period, but Indy was the one to break the scoreless draw. nearly 53 into the game. At 12:57, Kyle Stroh received the puck out in the right faceoff circle and blasted a shot through the crowed goal area and past Kent Patterson.
In his first home game as a Gladiator, Kent Patterson saved all but one of Indy's 22 shots, and Mac Carruth saved all 26 of the Gladiator's shots on goal.
The Gladiators will continue their homestand after the All-Star Break this Friday, January 23rd, when they take on the Florida Everblades at 7:35 p.m. Come and enjoy Friendly Friday at the Arena at Gwinnett Center! Fans can take part in an all-inclusive offer that includes a ticket plus food and drink.
