Walleye Prevail over Stingrays Sunday Afternoon on Frozen Day

North Charleston, S.C. - The South Carolina Stingrays (17-14-1-6) fell to the Toledo Walleye (25-5-3-2) 7-2 at the North Charleston Coliseum Sunday afternoon to wrap up a three-game in three-day weekend.

The Walleye kicked off the scoring 4:34 into the contest as forward Josh Holmstrom caught a pass from behind the net and lifted a shot past Stingrays goaltender Jeff Jakaitis (L, 9 saves on 13 shots). Moments later, Walleye rookie Tyler Barnes made it 2-0 with his 14 goal of the season at 10:04.

In the second period, the Walleye added two more tallies to send Jakaitis to the bench in favor of Adam Morrison (six saves on 9 shots). Forward Kyle Bonis gave the Walleye a three-goal cushion at 6:02 off a turnover followed by team captain Kyle Rodgers' fifth goal of the campaign at 9:05. Forward Caleb Herbert put the Stingarys on the scoreboard at 10:43 knocking in a pass from forward Braden Pimm off the right post of Walleye netminder Jeff Lerg (W, 29 saves on 31 shots). Defenseman and ECHL All-Star Garrett Haar added the second assist.

Forward Andrew Ammon lit the lamp for the Stingrays at 7:23 of the third period, but the Walleye added markers from forward Justin Mercier at 2:09 and 10:53 and Barnes at 13:38 to complete the game scoring. Forwards Patrick Gaul and Derek DeBlois added assists on Ammon's tally. The Stingrays finished the game 1-for-4 on the power play while the Walleye went 2-for-3.
