Hawks Head Home Victorious

Waterloo Black Hawks News Release

Cale Morris stopped 15 of 16 Sioux Falls Stampede shots Saturday, serving up a 3-1 Waterloo Black Hawks road win at Sanford Premier Arena.

Morris was acquired earlier in the day from the Chicago Steel and made the cross country trek to join the Hawks in time for the matchup. His busiest period was a scoreless first in which he made seven saves.

Henrik Rommel broke the tie with a shorthanded breakaway goal 8:18 into the second period. Coming up the slot, Rommel lifted a shot past netminder Stefanos Lekkas. The Stampede tied the matchup just over two minutes later during a subsequent power play. Dillon Eichstadt blasted the puck to the net moments after the advantage began with a Sioux Falls faceoff win.

Still even at 1-1 with under seven minutes remaining in the third period, Sean MacTavish sent a pass to Tyler Sheehy waiting at the top of the crease. Unchecked, Sheehy was one-on-one against Lekkas and slipped in a low shot to the stick side.

Alec McCrea added a long empty-netter with 17.5 seconds remaining to seal the decision.

Lekkas made 37 saves in the loss as the Hawks put at least a dozen shots on frame during every period.

Waterloo is back at home to host the Chicago Steel next Friday, the first game at Young Arena since New Year's Eve. Tickets for that matchup, which is part of the Hawks' annual John Deere Weekend, are available online from waterlooblackhawks.com or by calling the Domino's Black Hawks Box Office at (319) 291-7680.
