Belleville Bulls News Release

BELLEVILLE, ON - The Belleville Bulls were looking to keep momentum rolling on Saturday night as they hosted Michael Dal Colle and the Eastern Conference leading Oshawa Generals. The Bulls jumped out to an early two goal lead thanks to more success on the power play but it wasn't enough as the visiting Generals battled back scoring 3 unanswered goals on route to a 4-3 overtime victory.

Picking up right where they left off in Kitchener on Friday night, the Bulls continued to find the back of the net on the man advantage. Just under 4 minutes in Czech Republic product David Tomasek finished off a beautiful passing play as Oshawa's Sam Harding sat for slashing. Forwards Brett Gustavsen and Brandon Saigeon picked up assists on the games first goal.

The Bulls went back to the power play when Chris Carlisle got called for tripping at 11:43. Tottenham, Ontario native Maurizio Colella buried his first career OHL goal drawing helpers from Michael Cramarossa and Gustavsen. The Gens would get one back in the dying minutes of the period as Dal Colle beat netminder Connor Hicks for his 26th of the campaign. Oshawa led in shots 11-8 after the first 20 minutes of play.

The middle frame was slightly one sided as the Generals put 18 shots on the rookie Hicks. Late in the period 1997-born winger Kenny Huether scored his 3rd of the season to tie the game at 2. Vancouver Canucks prospect Cole Cassles picked up his 50th point with an assist on the play. Tobias Lindberg was credited with the other.

Not long after, defenceman Jordan Subban sat 2 minutes for tripping, giving the Generals their second man advantage of the contest. Lindberg made the home team pay as he picked up his third point of the night, putting his club up 3-2 with just 22 seconds remaining in the second. The Bulls only had 2 shots in the period.

Both teams had a power play chance each to begin the third but neither could capitalize with the extra attacker. A little over the 6 minute mark, forward Trent Fox scored his first as a Bull as he ripped one past brodeur to tie it up at 3. Later in the period, Niki Petti broke in alone and was taken down by Dakota Mermis, giving the veteran forward a penalty shot. Petti was unable to convert, though, and the game remained tied.

Overtime was needed. 1:53 minutes into the extra period, Mermis redeemed himself as he tipped home the game winner. Carlisle and Bradley Latour were credited the assists.

Connor Hicks, who was the games second star, made 38 saves while his counterpart Brodeur made 19. The Bulls fall to 19-18-3-2 with the loss but still pick up a point. Oshawa improves to 32-7-1-1.

-- On a special night in honour of brain cancer patient Thomas Martin, Bulls fans helped raise over $4,600 dollars! "Its great to see Bulls fans show their support for Thomas" said Director of Business Operations, Andrew Kerik. "He is a great kid who is always smiling and I'm glad we can help out the Martin family."

The Bulls are right back at the Yardmen Arena tomorrow afternoon as they host the Niagara IceDogs. Limited seats are available, call (613) 966-8338 or visit the Bulls Box Office for all ticket information. Puck drop is set for 3:00pm to accommodate for Sportsnet national broadcast.
