January 17, 2015 - American Hockey League (AHL)
San Antonio Rampage News Release
SAN ANTONIO - Three second-period goals propelled the San Antonio Rampage (22-13-3-0) to a 5-3 win over the Rochester Americans (16-23-1-0) in front of 7,499 on Saturday night at the AT&T Center. Jonathan Racine and Corban Knight each registered two assists in the win, and Dan Ellis finished with 29 saves on 32 shots.
Andrew Yogan opened the scoring, tipping a rebound past Matt Hackett to give the Rampage a 1-0 lead near the midway point of the first period. John McFarland's initial shot was backhanded by Wade Megan and Yogan was there to finish the play. Mikhail Grigorenko scored the equalizer with a wrister to the top left corner of the net, and the teams entered the first intermission knotted at one.
Zac Dalpe gave the Americans a 2-1 lead at the 7:56 mark of the middle frame, backhanding a low-angle shot over the shoulder of Ellis.
The Rampage answered with two goals in a 1:28 span, as Bobby Butler buried a rebound off a faceoff and Mark Mancari collected his eighth marker of the season to give San Antonio a 3-2 lead at 13:32 of the period. With the assist on Butler's tally, defenseman Jonathan Racine picked up his first point of the season.
Connor Brickley's goal from the low slot with just over a minute remaining in the stanza gave the Rampage a 4-2 lead at the break.
The Rampage extended their lead to three goals with a Ryan Martindale goal to open the final period. Martindale tipped Racine's shot from the left circle past Hackett to notch his 50th AHL point. Grigorenko scored his second of the game to make it 5-3, which would stand as the final score.
The Rampage were 0-for-4 on the power play while holding the Americans scoreless on five opportunities with the man advantage.
After 33 games without registering a point, Racine collected two assists on Saturday night, picking up the first multi-point game of his career. The Rampage defenseman provided the primary assist for both Butler's second-period tally and Martindale's marker in the final frame.
The second period continued to be the Rampage's best, as the Silver and Black tallied three goals to take a 4-2 lead over the Amerks after 40 minutes of play. San Antonio has now scored a league-leading 55 goals in the middle frame this season.
Shane O'Brien, who was reassigned to San Antonio on Thursday, skated with Steven Kampfer. Corban Knight and Logan Shaw were back in the lineup after missing the last game due to illness.
