January 17, 2015 - American Hockey League (AHL)
St. John's IceCaps News Release

Carl Klingberg scored just 37 seconds into overtime to propel the St. John's IceCaps to a nerve-racking 3-2 win over the Portland Pirates at Mile One Centre on Saturday night.

Klingberg pounced on a juicy rebound off the stick of John Albert and beat Pirates starter Louis Domingue in the opening minute of the extra period to give the IceCaps their second win of the three games against Portland and a record of four wins and three losses to end their seven-game homestand.

Will O'Neill had a goal and an assist while Chase Balisy had the other IceCaps tally. Connor Hellebuyck stopped 31 shots for his 17th win.

The IceCaps were the first to find the back of the net O'Neill made a great spin move near the blueline before charging the net and snapping a quick shot on goal through a sea of bodies in front of Domingue. He beat the goalie high on the glove side to open the scoring with 10:27 left in the opening period.

The IceCaps pushed the lead to two early in the second as Balisy slid the puck under the pads of Domingue after picking up a pass from behind the net off the stick of a streaking Klingberg at 18:19.

The Pirates cut the lead to one late in the second as Dylan Reese's shot squeezed through Hellebuyck's pads and barely over the line behind him. The play was reviewed but the goal counted at 1:41.

The IceCaps held onto their lead until late in the third period when Jordan Szwarz deflected a Brendan Shinnimin shot into the net to tie the game with 6.7 seconds remaining, forcing the game into overtime for the second time in the three-game series.

Klingberg ended the game in overtime for the second time in the series, scoring 37 seconds in to give St. John's the two points.

The IceCaps will now hit the road for a five-game trip, starting on Wednesday, January 21 against the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. The IceCaps will return to Mile One Centre on Friday, February 6 as they host the Portland Pirates for a pair of games.
