Brampton Beast Prepare for 100th Franchise Game

January 16, 2015 - ECHL (ECHL)
Brampton Beast News Release

BRAMPTON, ON - Some of the GTA's future hockey all-stars will be taking the ice at the Powerade Centre before Saturday's 7:00 p.m. milestone melee between the Brampton Beast and the Wheeling Nailers. The game represents a significant marker in the history of the Beast, as it will be the team's 100 th franchise game. To celebrate, the first 2500 fans through the gate will also receive a Brampton Beast mini stick, courtesy of the Monte Carlo Inn.

In the spirit of promoting the game in the local community, the Beast have invited minor hockey teams from the surrounding area to participate in Hockey Day in Brampton, a fun-filled afternoon at the Powerade Centre involving tours of the building and dressing room, as well as on-ice activities for three minor hockey teams. After the drills, the groups have been extended an invitation to cheer on the Beast during their game against the Montreal Canadiens and Pittsburgh Penguins affiliate the Wheeling Nailers.

"Hockey Day in Brampton is a chance for our organization to salute the players, coaches, and volunteers that do so much for grassroots hockey in our community," says Ken Vezina, Vice President of Business Operations with the Beast. "Hockey has a rich history in Brampton and the surrounding area. By inviting local teams out to enjoy a skate or a practice prior to our game and to participate in the festivities during the game, we hope to show our appreciation of just how vital hockey and its participants are to our community."

Hometown product Jason Pitton, the Beast's alternate captain and last year's leading scorer, has been an integral part of the team since day one, and is the only player on the Beast to have suited up for every game in the history of the franchise. His leadership and passion for both the sport of hockey and supporting the local community have endeared him to both Beast fans and residents of the Brampton area. His 'Pitton's Points for Pounds' charity, which sees Pitton donate two non-perishable food items for every goal scored and one non-perishable food item for every assist, has been a big help to those of need in the Peel region, and continue to highlight how Pitton serves as a role-model to others in contributing to an extremely worthwhile cause.

Teams from all across the GTA were invited to sign up over the past week for this unique hockey experience, with the opportunity to skate on the same NHL-sized ice surface that the Beast call home. Taking the ice tomorrow will be the Brampton Novice Hawks, the Novice West Mall Lightning select team and the Halton Hills Thunder.

The Hawks will begin practicing at 2 P.M., with the Lightning scheduled for 4 P.M. and the Thunder taking the ice at 5. Accompanying the extra ice-time is the chance for one lucky team to win a suite for the night to enjoy the full Beast experience in style.

The fun continues for fans throughout the weekend, as Sunday is Beach Party Day at the Powerade Centre, where fans can have fun in the sun and participate in a paper airplane toss during the second intermission with a chance to win two FREE flights! Tickets can be purchased online at bramptonbeast.com or by calling 905-564-1684.
