 Eugene Emeralds

the Emeralds Are Ready to Take the Plunge

January 16, 2015 - Northwest League (NWL1)
Eugene Emeralds News Release

EUGENE, OR - Before the College Football National Championship game, the Eugene Emeralds, a Class A short-season affiliate of the Chicago Cubs, made a friendly "Pass a Cold One" wager with the Columbus Clippers, the Triple-A affiliate of the Cleveland Indians. Sadly, the University of Oregon was unable to bring home a national championship, so the Emeralds staff is ready to pay up. But the silver lining is easy to find, the Emeralds want your help to turn the loss into a win for the Special Olympics Oregon chapter.

In terms with the wager, the staff of the Emeralds will be participating in the Polar Plunge Eugene on February 7 at Maurie Jacobs Park. The Polar Plunge is the largest fundraiser for the Special Olympics, and the Ems hope to raise $2500. This donation will help provide 250 uniforms for Special Olympic athletes. To support the staff, please visit our team page at www.eugeneplunge.kintera.org/theeugeneemeralds to donate.

During the plunge the staff will have to wearing a mixture of Ohio State and Clipper gear, but the team hopes fans will come dressed in Oregon and Emeralds gear to show their support. Fans can even join the Emeralds team and take the plunge with us! To join the Eugene Emeralds for the plunge, visit www.eugeneplunge.kintera.org/theeugeneemeralds to sign up. Sluggo will also be on hand to give out warm hugs and cheer on all participates. The event will be documented through our Social Media pages.

This year the Eugene Emeralds proudly celebrate their 60th Anniversary. Since 1955, over 300 Emeralds alumni have made it to the Big Leagues. Our rich history includes players like Mike Schmidt, Bob Boone, Tom Gordon, Eric Davis and most recently 2014 AL Cy Young Award winner Corey Kluber. For the 2015 season, the Emeralds have made a major affiliation change by signing with the Chicago Cubs. Season tickets, mini plans and group tickets for 2015 can be purchased at www.EmeraldsBaseball.com, by phone 541-342-5367 and in person by visiting the Emeralds Box Office located next to PK Park. Individual game tickets will go on sale in May.
