Headrick Joins RailRiders Broadcast Crew

Moosic, Pa. - The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (Triple-A/New York Yankees) are proud to announce that Darren Headrick will join the SWB broadcast team for the 2015 season. Headrick will work alongside the RailRiders' director of media relations and broadcasting, John Sadak. Together, they will bring exciting play-by-play call of RailRiders baseball to the team's radio and television broadcasts throughout the summer.

"I want to thank John and (team president/GM) Mr. (Rob) Crain for the opportunity to return to Triple-A and broadcast games for the RailRiders this season," Headrick said. "It's been my goal to get back to this level and I am thrilled to be able to work with a broadcaster as talented as John. To do so for one of the most respected organizations in all of professional sports, the New York Yankees, is icing on the cake."

Headrick, a native of Maryville, Tenn., has been a part of award-winning broadcast teams at every stop in professional baseball. He began his journey as an intern for the Vol Radio Network at the University of Tennessee and made his first foray into pro ball with the Tennessee Smokies (Double-A/Chicago Cubs) in 2006. He climbed his way from the production staff to broadcast assistant, joining the airwaves in 2008. Headrick moved to Wilson, N.C., in 2010 to broadcast Wilson Tobs baseball (summer collegiate). From there, he earned his first Triple-A opportunity as assistant director of broadcasting for the Oklahoma City RedHawks (Houston Astros). In 2012, he accepted the director of broadcasting position with the Carolina Mudcats (Advanced-A/Cleveland Indians). For the past three years, Headrick brought Mudcats baseball to the airwaves across eastern North Carolina. His peers recognized his hard work by naming him the 2013 Carolina League Broadcaster of the Year.

"Darren is a five-tool broadcaster," said Sadak. "He has a conversational style. He has proven to be a masterful storyteller. He has a booming voice. He fosters relationships with teams incredibly well and he possesses the production skill to take the feature end of our broadcasts to another level. His passion for the game, work ethic and God-given talent made him our top choice."

Headrick fills the vacancy that was left after the departure of Aaron Berlin who now works as a studio host/producer for the NBA's Orlando Magic. It marks the second straight season in the RailRiders era that the team's No. 2 voice has launched from a seasonal slot to a full-time job in the field. Andrew Kappes, who filled the role in 2013, departed to become the lead broadcaster for the Bowling Green Hot Rods (Low-A/Tampa Bay Rays) in 2014.
