Eagles Continue Winning Streak with 5-1 Win over Aces

LOVELAND, Colo. -The Colorado Eagles (23-13-0-0) defeated the Alaska Aces (15-16-1-1) with a 5-1 triumph on Wednesday evening at the Budweiser Events Center to continue a five-game winning streak.

Eagles forward Kyle Kraemer scored his first goal of the season with assists from Trent Daavettila and Chris Knowlton to put the Eagles on the board with 7:35 left in the first stanza. At 16:27 Aces forward Raphael Bussieres found the back of the net from the far side of the circle to tie the game 1-1. Forward Taylor Vause fired the puck past Aces netminder Niklas Lundstrom from the side of the net to put the Eagles in the 2-1 lead with less than a minute left in the first period.

Only :17 into the second period, Kraemer put the Eagles up 3-1 as he notched his second goal of the night, swatting a rebound out of mid-air and into the net with help from linemates Vause and Daavettila. Just four minutes later, Eagles defenseman Colin Joe caught a cross-slot pass from forward Brock Nixon and one-timed it into the net to put the Eagles at the 4-1 advantage. With 7:07 left in the second period, Daavettila cashed in on a four minute power play as he stuffed a goal home, five-hole, to take the 5-1 victory over the Aces.

The Aces netminding combo of Lundstrom and Aaron Crandall stopped 29 of 34 shots on goal, while Eagles netminder Troy Redmann shutdown 30 of the Aces 31 shots to hold on for the 5-1 win.

January 16th's face-off with the Alaska Aces will mark the Eagles annual "Hockey Fights Cancer Night" presented by University of Colorado Health. Specialty pink jerseys will be worn on Friday, January 16th and auctioned off on Saturday, January 17th to benefit the Poudre Valley Health Cancer Center.
