Adirondack Flames News Release
The Flames are coming off a three-point week, which included a pair of losses to two of the top teams in the American Hockey League. Adirondack begun its week with a convincing 6-2 victory over the San Antonio Rampage on Tuesday evening at the Civic Center. After they dropped a thrilling, back and forth overtime contest to the Oklahoma City Barons on Friday, the Flames fell again in Utica on Saturday to the Comets. The loss to the Comets was the seventh straight defeat at the hands of their North Division rivals this season.
Tuesday 1/6/15: Adirondack Flames 6 - San Antonio Rampage 2 (Glens Falls Civic Center)
The Adirondack Flames took down the San Antonio Rampage 6-2 on Tuesday evening at the Glens Falls Civic Center.
Six different players netted a goal in the game and eight players recorded assists. The Flames continued their recent trend of high shots totals, with 48 for the night, marking three straight games with 40 or more shots. Joni Ortio recorded the victory with 36 saves on 38 shots.
Friday 1/9/15: Adirondack Flames 4 - Oklahoma City Barons 5 OT (Glens Falls Civic Center)
The Adirondack Flames were defeated 5-4 by the Oklahoma City Barons on Friday in a wild, back and forth overtime contest at the Glens Falls Civic Center.
Despite the loss, in which the Flames earned one point in the standings against the Western Conference leading Barons, AHL rookie All-Star Emile Poirier scored twice, including the game tying goal midway through the third period. Sven Baertschi and John Ramage also scored for Adirondack, while Bill Arnold, David Wolf, Ben Hanowski, and Tyler Wotherspoon all added assists on the evening. Brad Thiessen made 32 saves between the pipes for the Flames in the losing effort.
Saturday 1/10/15: Adirondack Flames 1 - Utica Comets 4 (Utica Memorial Auditorium)
The Adirondack Flames were defeated 4-1 by the Utica Comets on Saturday evening at the Utica Memorial Auditorium.
David Wolf found the score sheet for the third straight game as he collected Adirondack's long goal of the evening with a first period tally. Brad Thiessen started his second consecutive game between the pipes and turned aside 25 shots in the defeat. The Flames threw 43 shots on Utica netminder Jacob Markstrom but the Swede stood tall with 42 saves to earn the victory.
Flames Quick Hits
On Friday, the Calgary Flames acquired AHL All-Star Drew Shore in a trade, which sent Corban Knight to the Florida Panthers organization. Shore, a 23-year-old center, has recorded nine goals and 30 points (9-21-30) thus far in 35 AHL games this season with the San Antonio Rampage. Shore was assigned to Adirondack following the trade.
In Adirondack's 5-4 overtime loss to Oklahoma City on Friday, rookie and All-Star winger Emile Poirier scored two goals in a single game for the fourth time this season. With an assist in the game as well, Poirier tied his single game point high for the campaign, with three (2-1-3).

Adirondack Alumni
On Thursday (1/8/15), goaltender Joni Ortio was recalled to Calgary. Ortio, 23, played in 27 games with Adirondack, during which time he recorded 17 wins, a 2.52 goals against average, and a .916 save percentage. In his first start with Calgary, he made 36 saves to earn his first NHL shutout in the Flames' 1-0 win over the Vancouver Canucks.
Markus Granlund, who started the season in Adirondack, made his 2014-15 debut with Calgary on Oct. 31. The Finnish forward has accumulated 13 points (5-8-13) in 31 games thus far with Calgary.
In 31 games this season with Calgary, Josh Jooris has now recorded 14 points (9-5-14). After playing two games with Adirondack at the start of the season, Jooris was called up to the NHL when David Jones was sidelined due to a lower-body injury. Jooris has since been placed on the Injured Reserve.
Flames Milestones
Sven Baertschi is quickly approaching his 100th AHL game. With his 25 games played this season with Adirondack, the Swiss forward has now played 98 games in the AHL.
Flames center Max Reinhart currently has 96 AHL points. He is just four away from reaching the 100-point plateau. He has ten total points this season (5-5-10).
The Week Ahead
Saturday vs. Milwaukee (1/17/15) - 7:00 p.m.
On Saturday, the Milwaukee Admirals will make their one and only trip to Glens Falls this season. This will be the second meeting of the campaign between these two teams, as the Flames took down the Admirals one month ago in their only other meeting by a score of 3-1 in Milwaukee.
Offensively, the Admirals have been led by a strong trio of AHL rookies. Brendan Leipsic has been the leading point getting thus far for Milwaukee with 25 points (4-21-25), while Viktor Arvidsson (12-11-23), and Pontus Aberg (13-7-20) have followed close behind. Austin Watson, on the other hand, has lit the lamp 14 times this season, which is enough to lead the Admirals in the goals department through the first half of the current AHL season.
Between the pipes, Magnus Hellberg and Marek Mazanec have combined to create a strong goaltending tandem. While Mazanec has appeared in more games (23) and has earned more wins (11) than his counterpart, Hellberg has made the most of his 16 games, as he's recorded a 1.77 goals against average, and a .933 save percentage during his time in the Milwaukee net, which leads the Admirals in those categories.
Upcoming Events and Promotions
When the Flames take on the Admirals on Saturday, it will be Hockey Night in Glens Falls, presented by Bud Light. That game will also feature "Pink in the Rink" presented by Glens Falls Hospital. Players will wear authentic, game worn pink jerseys to be auctioned after the game with proceeds to benefit the CR Wood Cancer Center. Pre-game specials will be available at Downtown City Tavern from 5-6 p.m.
