Louisiana IceGators News Release

LAFAYETTE, La.--The Louisiana IceGators have been knocked off cloud nine.

For the second time in two nights, the Louisiana IceGators amassed an early lead. Unlike Friday night, the IceGators let that lead slip, giving up five unanswered goals en route to the 5-3 loss to the Pensacola IceFlyers in the Cajundome Saturday. Nick McParland led the way for Pensacola with two goals.

The IceGators hit the road next weekend to play a three game stretch against the Peoria Rivermen. The first game of the set takes place next Friday at 7:05 p.m.

"We played 30 minutes of solid hockey and 30 minutes of the worst hockey we've played all year," said IceGators head coach Drew Omicioli. "The never gave up, took advantage of their opportunities, and they executed. I'm speechless after we came out and gave that performance in the last 30 minutes with so much at stake and with a great crowd in attendance."

Jeremy Boyer and Brett Peppler scored within 15 seconds of each other in the fifth minute of the game to put Louisiana up 2-0 early. Jake Hauswirth tacked on another goal at the 2:19 mark of the second period to give Louisiana a three-goal advantage.

Pensacola then came to life.

McParland put the IceFlyers on the board with 4:06 left in the second period. Adam Pawlick, Phil Tesoriero, Corey Banfield, and McParland all scored in the final frame to end the IceGators two-game win streak.

Omicioli says he warned his team of the consequences of slacking after he saw them revert to lackadaisical play.

"I told them during the second intermission that we had a 3-1 lead at home and that we had to go out in five-minute segments and make sure that each guy was even or plus for each segment to win the game. Obviously, that didn't happen."

The IceGators are still nursing injuries, including one Chris Wilson sustained during this game. Omicioli says this week will be all about evaluating those injuries and seeing who can play against Peoria.

"Losing Wilson hurt us tonight," Omicioli said. "We have to see the status of the players who are injured and go from there."
