Three goals in the first 6:40 of the game propelled the Rochester Americans (15-21-1-0) to a 5-2 win over the Lake Erie Monsters (14-15-2-3) Friday night at Blue Cross Arena in Rochester, New York. Joey Hishon scored and had an assist for the Monsters in the loss, while Dennis Everberg also added a goal. The Monsters will meet Hamilton tomorrow at 7:00 p.m. in the second game of their five-game road swing.

Rochester took a 3-0 lead 6:40 into the first period on goals from Mark Pysyk, William Carrier, and Dan Catenacci. After Rochester scored twice on their first six shots, Sami Aittokallio replaced Monsters starting goalie Calvin Pickard.

Dennis Everberg pulled the Monsters to within 3-1 when he scored from the inside edge of the left circle after a brilliant setup from Joey Hishon out of the right wing corner. The goal was Everberg's third of the season and was scored at 15:21 of the opening frame. Michael Schumacher also assisted on the goal.

Rochester countered and regained the three-goal lead, making the score 4-1 on a goal from Zac Dalpe at 18:42. Dalpe's goal prompted a second goaltending change for the Monsters, as Pickard stepped back between the pipes.

Hishon netted the lone goal of the second period on a power play at 3:03 of the second period. The goal was Hishon's eighth of the season and was assisted by Stefan Elliott and Max Noreau.

Jerry D'Amigo added a late empty-net goal to seal the 5-2 win for Rochester.

Pickard stopped 17 of 19 in 44:23 in net for the Monsters, while Aittokallio stopped five of seven shots in 13:32. Andrey Makarov stopped 29 of 31 Monsters shots.
