Brampton Beast News Release

BRAMPTON, ON - The Brampton Beast are proud to announce Tyson Fawcett to represent the Beast at the ECHL All Star Game on January 21, in Orlando, Florida.

Fawcett, one of six rookies currently on the Beast roster, has scored five goals and six assists to go along with 16 penalty minutes in 26 games this season. The dynamic forward also chipped in a game-winning goal in the final two minutes of the third period against Rapid City in November, has two fights on the year and remains perfect so far in the shootout.

"It means a lot," says Fawcett of the selection after an on-ice practice at the Powerade Centre on Thursday. "I come to the rink every day and work as hard as I can. When I get an opportunity, I try to produce and make the most of it. That's been my game plan and it looks like it paid off."

Fawcett joined the Beast after spending his past two years with the Barrie Colts of the Ontario Hockey League, where he scored 75 points in 130 games and was an alternate captain last season. The feisty centre was dubbed a 'spark plug' by his former OHL coach Dale Hawerchuk, and has transitioned his skills smoothly into his first season of professional hockey.

"I think the OHL prepared me pretty well for this level," says Fawcett. "The guys here are smarter, so being a smaller guy you have to play stronger, get in front of them and tie up sticks. If I play the same way as I always have, going hard and battling and not backing down from anyone, I think I'll be fine."

It's been a season of firsts for the Fawcett, a native of Barrie, Ontario. His first pro goal came on November 14 against the Quad City Mallards while his first fight was on November 21 against the Allen Americans. The biggest moment of his young career was the night he scored his first Gordie Howe hat trick, which included a fight against 6'4", 225-pound winger Erick Lizon of the Wichita Thunder. Standing nearly a foot shorter and 55-pounds lighter than his opponent, Fawcett stood up for himself and refused to back down from the fight, inspiring his team to an emotional 4-1 win.

"I think it's great, the kid deserves it," said Head Coach Brent Hughes. "He's worked hard here since day one, he's one of the guys that brings it every night and I'm happy for him. One thing that will always stick out was that fight with Lizon. You don't really see that too often, but that just shows the heart of this kid and how much he cares about this team."

Fawcett has been named as an alternate in the event that a selected player is unable to participate in the All-Star Classic. The festivities kick off on Tuesday, January 20 in the sunny Orlando, Florida with the ECHL All-Star Fan Fest, p resented by Walgreen's, with player appearances, interactive game, prizes, giveaways, auctions, memorabilia, and a special Hockey Hall of Fame exhibit, will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 20. On Wednesday, Jan. 21, the day's events include the ECHL Hall of Fame Luncheon and the 2015 CCM / ECHL All-Star Classic presented by Visit Orlando . Select ECHL Skills competitions will be held the same night and will be incorporated into the evening's events. For more information about the ECHL All-Star Classic visit ECHL.com.
