Canes in the Community:

Wednesday, January 7th - AMA Skate, 10:30 - 12:30pm. The Hurricanes are teaming up with AMA to welcome more than 300 Safety Patrollers to have a skate and autograph session with some of the players.

Promotions/Events:

Crimestoppers $30,000 Chuck a Puck It's back! Your chance to walk away with $30,000 at the Hurricanes game on Saturday, January 10th. Crimestoppers is back with their Chuck-A-Puck sponsored by TnT Towing. Purchase your pucks from the volunteers and during intermission prepare to toss your pucks on the ice for your chance to win!

Hockey: It's in our Blood: The Lethbridge Hurricanes are excited to once again partner with Canadian Blood Services and ROCK 106 as we encourage residents in Lethbridge and Southern Alberta to become a blood donor. For the third year, the Hurricanes and their Central Division rivals - the Red Deer Rebels - are renewing their off ice rivalry in the "It's in our blood" challenge. The goal for the month of January is to see who can bring in the most blood donations. Canadian Blood Services will be at Hurricanes games during the month and on January 10th and 13th they'll be offering their "What's Your Type" clinic. Residents can learn what their their blood type is and then book an appointment by calling 1-888-2-DONATE (1-888-236-6283).

Mark Your Calendar! On Thursday, February 12th, 2015, the Lethbridge Hurricanes are excited to announce the return of the Celebrity Dinner & Auction. Our special guest for the 9th annual event is 4-time Stanley Cup Champion Paul Coffey. Tickets for the event can be purchased from the Hurricanes Office or by calling (403) 328-1986. Individual tickets are $125 while a table (10) is $1,000.

This Week's Schedule:

Friday, January 9th, 7:00pm vs. Saskatoon Blades - It's the second meeting of the season between the Hurricanes and Saskatoon Blades. In their first matchup, Carter Folk registered his first career hat trick and Zane Jones added 2 goals and a helper in a 7-2 win (their 3rd of the season) while Stuart Skinner made 33 saves. Last season Lethbridge was 1-3 against Saskatoon.

Saturday, January 10th, 7:00pm vs. Calgary Hitmen - Lethbridge and renew their rivalry just over a week after their last meeting which the Hitmen won 9-2. It was all Calgary from the outset with 3 goals in the first, 4 more in the 2nd and 2 in the 3rd. Tyler Wong and Jaeger White scored in the loss. The teams split their prior two meetings with Calgary winning 9-2 on September 28th and Lethbridge won 4-3 in a shootout. In that game, Stuart Skinner registered his first career WHL win with a 50 save performance.

The week that was:

Tuesday, December 30th: 9-2 loss at Calgary - The Hurricanes losing streak was extended to two games after a 9-2 loss Tuesday in Calgary to the Hitmen. The Hurricanes were down early and never recovered. The Hitmen scored three goals in the first and four in the second before adding two more in the third period. Connor Rankin led all scorers in the game with five points for Calgary. Tyler Wong and Jaeger White scored the goals for the "˜Canes. Stuart Skinner played the entire game allowing 9 goals on 43 shots. The Hurricanes went 0/6 on the power play, while Calgary went 2/5. Final shots favoured Calgary 43-24.

Friday, January 2nd: 3-2 loss at Edmonton - The Hurricanes dropped their third straight game last night in Edmonton with a 3-2 loss to the Oil Kings. The "˜Canes played a strong road game and got a stellar performance in goal from Stuart Skinner who stopped 40 of 43 shots he faced. Taylor Cooper scored his 11th of the season while Kord Pankewicz added his 4th in the loss. The Hurricanes went 0/6 on the power play, Oil Kings went 0/7.

Saturday, January 3rd: 3-2 (SO) loss vs. Red Deer - The Hurricanes jumped out to a fast start and took a 2-0 first period lead over the Rebels after goals by Miles Warkentine and former Hurricane Taylor Cooper. Red Deer responded with a goal in the 2nd and tied the game with less than 2 minutes to go in the 3rd. OT solved nothing and in the shootout, Ryley Lindgren scored to keep the shootout alive. Finally in the 6th round, Brett Cote scored the winner as Red Deer came from behind to defeat the Canes.

News & Notes:

Trade Deadline Week: With the January 10th WHL trade deadline looming, the Canes have made some roster moves. The team moved Taylor Cooper to the Regina Pats for right-handed 6'3, 205 lb. defenceman Brady Reagan. The team also claimed Florian Baltram off waivers from the Seattle Thunderbirds and the team assigned Dexter Bricker back to Junior with the Melfort Mustangs in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League.

T-9th All Time: Hurricanes Head Coach and GM Peter Anholt is tied for 9th all-time in WHL wins. Anholt currently has 453 victories is tied with Bob Lowes. He is one win away from holding sole possession of 9th.

Central Scouting November Players to Watch List: 2nd year Centre, Giorgio Estephan and Defencemen Kade Jensen and Andrew Nielsen have all caught the eye of the NHL's Central Scouting Bureau. The November Watch List (released Nov. 20th) lists all 3 players as WHL "C" skaters indicating a 4th to 6th round candidate in the upcoming NHL Draft...NHL Camps: Nick Walters signed an Amateur Tryout Agreement with the Columbus Blue Jackets and attended their Prospects Camp in September.

Prospect Watch: Jordy Bellerive, Nick Watson (Team BC) and Zane Franklin (Team Alberta) and Brett Davis (Team Manitoba) have all made their provincial U16 teams to compete at the Canada Winter Games scheduled for February 19th to March 1st in Prince George.

Jesse Sheen, Jake Ashton, and Ayden Roche-Setoguchi (Calgary Buffaloes); Connor Rokosh (SSAC Athletics) and Barrett Sheen (UFA Bisons) all participated in the Mac's tournament in Calgary. The tournament wrapped up January 1st, with all Hurricanes prospects and their teams making it to the playoff round (eventually losing in the quarters and semifinals).

Jamal Watson is the longest serving Hurricane on the roster with 242 games played, the career record of games played is 336 by Shane Peacock (1989-94)
