Rivermen Trade Defensemen with Louisiana

PEORIA - The Peoria Rivermen have acquired defenseman Jason Cohen in a trade with the Louisiana IceGators, sending blue-liner Tyler Amburgey to the Lafayette-based club.
Cohen has registered 5 goals and 8 assists for 13 points with 19 penalty minutes in 19 games this season with the IceGators. He also spent six games this season on a call-up to the ECHL's Tulsa Oilers where he recorded two assists. In his rookie campaign last season, he split time with the IceGators (22 games, 8 goals, 14 assists, 22 points) and the Central Hockey League's Denver Cutthroats (28 games, 1 goal, 7 assists, 8 points) as well as an additional four games with the ECHL's Alaska Aces in which he did not collect a point. Cohen is 26 years old and a 6-1, 195-pound native of Anchorage, Alaska.
Amburgey, 23, registered 4 goals and 4 assists for 8 points in 17 Rivermen games this season, his second in Peoria. The 6-3, 215-pound native of Rowlett, Texas also was called up for three games with the Cincinnati Cyclones of the ECHL earlier this season, but did not record a point. This is his third professional season.
The Rivermen begin a six-game home stand on Friday with a three-game weekend series with the Mississippi RiverKings. Peoria is 15-7-2 for 32 points, tied with Knoxville for second place in the Southern Professional Hockey League. The RiverKings are seventh with a record of 11-12-2 for 24 points. Face-offs are 7:05 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 3:05 p.m. Sunday. Games can be viewed via subscription at SPHLLive.com and heard for free at www.rivermen.net and inside Carver Arena on 93.7 FM.
Coca-Cola Finally Friday features two tickets for only $20, plus fans can get a Loaded Ticket including a hot dog, popcorn and drink for only $15 on Friday. Saturday is Star Wars Night with appearances by Darth Vader and the Stormtroopers, and special Star Wars jersey worn by the Rivermen and auctioned after the game to benefit Fuller Center. Unity Point Health Methodist/Proctor hosts a Wellness Fair on the Carver Arena concourse before and during Saturday's game. Sunday is PJ Star Family Fun Day with appearances by Dora the Explorer and Boots, a Family Fun Zone in the Great Hall from 2:00 to 3:00 with Fun on the Run inflatables, Wild Style Design face painting and Unique Twist balloon animals, plus $1 tickets for kids 12 and under and $3 kids meals (hot dog, chips, drink).
Single game tickets for Peoria's 33rd season of professional hockey are on sale weekdays at the Peoria Civic Center.
