Blades Deal Forsberg to Victoria

January 6, 2015 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Saskatoon Blades News Release

The Saskatoon Blades have traded 19 year old centre Alex Forsberg, a 2015 3rd round pick (from Portland,) and a 2016 4th round pick to the Victoria Royals for 16 year old forward Brayden Dunn, and a 2017 1st round pick.

"It was a deal that made a lot of sense," said Blades Managing Partner Colin Priestner. "We took what some people though was a bit of a chance when we acquired Alex, and we're proud of how he's developed and got his game on track, and we were able to parlay that into a future first round pick, which will only help this team."

Forsberg is from Waldheim Saskatchewan, and is the Blades leading scorer this season, with 33 points in 36 games.

"He's a special player, and he'll do well in Victoria. Great kid, and it's nice that he'll have the chance to play in the playoffs for the first time, which is great for him. We always said that to trade a player like that, it would have to be to a playoff team that really wanted him, and this trade just made sense."

The Blades also acquired 1998 born Brayden Dunn in the trade.

"That's an age group where we are weak in the depth chart, he's a good player, a former 4th round pick, and he has a lot of potential. Hopefully he can earn a spot with the team next year."

The Blades now hold two first round picks in the 2015, 2016 and 2017 bantam drafts, giving the team great flexibility moving forward.
