Murphy Named December Player of the Month

(Windsor, ON) - Trevor Murphy is December's Precision Jewellers Player of the Month.
The 19-year-old defenceman has been huge offensively while playing big minutes and providing leadership to a young Spitfires club that has suddenly won four of five games overall.
Murphy scored five goals and added six assists while amassing 30 penalty minutes - largely the result of four fights - last month, while providing toughness, grit and an offensive spark without sacrificing work in the defensive zone.
The Windsor native credits his teammates for contributing to his dynamic play.
"We knew heading into December that we had to start playing better." Murphy said. "We're coming together as a team lately." Those improvements continue to result in more offensive production, with Murphy as the catalyst. The Spitfires scored 39 goals in December and have exploded for 28 in their last five contests.
Murphy leads the team in points with 32 and has the most goals of any blueliner in the Ontario Hockey League, with 15.
"It's something I take pride in. Our power play has been getting better, week-in-and- week-out. I think that has to do with the majority of my goals. As long as that stays steady, it's helping us win." With the club currently on a four-game road winning streak, Murphy says the young Spits are ready for a big trip to Eastern Ontario, with stops in Belleville (Wednesday), Ottawa (Friday) and Kingston (Saturday).
"We've been winning games on the road and that's huge," Murphy said. "You've got to be at least a .500 hockey team in order to make the playoffs. Going into this road trip we've gathered as team. We've been disciplined on the road.
"I think we can come out of this weekend with three wins." Trevor will be recognized prior to our January 15th home game against the Sudbury Wolves and will receive a snazzy Bulova watch, courtesy of Precision Jewellers.
