Columbus Cottonmouths News Release

The Columbus Cottonmouths relied on the sparkling performance of Andrew Loewen in net to grab a 3-1 win against the Pensacola Ice Flyers.

Columbus was paced by Neilsson Arcibal, who had one goal. Arcibal scored on the power play 10:52 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Columbus. The Cottonmouths earned a power play opportunity when Keegan Flaherty was put in the box for goalie interference. Bryce Williamson picked up the assist.

Columbus' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Pensacola power plays. The Cottonmouths relied on a core group of players for most of their offense, as Williamson, Kyle Thomas and Max Cook took 15 of the team's 27 shots.

Columbus also got points from Matt Gingera, who also racked up one goal and one assist. More assists for Columbus came via Levi Lind, who had one.

Pensacola racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with eight minors and two majors for 56 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 16.0 minutes per game the Ice Flyers had been spending in the box. Pensacola was held below its usual level of production. The Ice Flyers average 3.5 goals per game. Pensacola put 34 shots on net during the contest, more than the 26.5 it averages per game.

The Ice Flyers were led by Adam Pawlick, who scored the team's only goal. Pawlick scored 8:05 into the third period to make the score 1-1. Corey Banfield provided the assist.

Loewen recorded 33 saves for Columbus. The Cottonmouths totaled 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 3-for-9 on the power play. Pensacola's Max Strang stopped 24 shots out of the 26 that he faced. The Ice Flyers ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Phil Tesoriero was ejected from the game.
