Roughnecks Fall Short in 2015 Home Opener

Calgary, AB - The Vancouver Stealth posted a strong 11-goal second half to defeat the Calgary Roughnecks 18-14 Saturday evening at the Scotiabank Saddledome.

The Roughnecks built an early 3-0 lead with goals from Mike Carnegie, Dane Dobbie and Curtis Dickson. Tyler Digby and Rhys Duch responded for the visiting Stealth before Geoff Snider and Dobbie, netting his second of four goals, both scored for Calgary to end the opening quarter 5-2.

A back and forth second quarter saw Dobbie and Jeff Shattler, with three consecutive goals, add tallies for Calgary who carried a 9-7 lead into the third quarter.

The Stealth then dominated the second half, holding the home club off the scoreboard in the third quarter while scoring six times.

Duch, who recorded a three-point performance in the first half, added two more goals and four assists to finish the night with a game-leading nine points while Shawn Evans led the Roughnecks with a pair of goals and five helpers. Dickson rounded out the scoring for Calgary, posting two more goals and adding three assists for a six-point effort.

Tyler Richards turned aside 48 shots in the win while Mike Poulin and Frankie Scigliano combined for 30 saves for Calgary.

The Roughnecks (0-1) next see action Saturday, Jan. 10 when Calgary visits the Colorado Mammoth (1-0) for a 7:00 p.m. face-off at Pepsi Center.
