Mill Rats Break in the New Year in Style 129-111

(Saint John, NB): The Saint John Mill Rats broke in the New Year in style, beating the Moncton Miracles 129-111 on the strength of 40 points by power forward Kenny Jones.

After a tied 23-23 first quarter, Saint John outscored Moncton 31-16 to take a 54-39 halftime lead.

The third quarter was more of the same as Saint John boosted their lead out to 90-67. The fourth quarter Moncton outscored Saint John 44-39 to account for the final margin.

"We played with a great amount of energy and unselfishness tonight and it was great to see," said Mill Rats Head Coach Julian King. "We are essentially in week 1 of training camp with all the new faces, but its starting to come together."

Jones led Saint John with 40 points, Johnny Mayhane 17, Jeremy Williams & Tyrone Levett 16, Anthony Anderson 13, and Jermaine Dailey 12. Shawn Vanzant scored 24 for Moncton.

Singleton set a Mill Rats single game record with 19 assists (one shy of the NBL Canada record).

The Mill Rats head to Halifax tomorrow to face the Rainmen again at 7pm at the Scotiabank Centre.
