December 28, 2014 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Topeka Pilots News Release

The Topeka RoadRunners got plenty of offense and cruised to a 7-2 win over Wichita Falls on Sunday evening to complete the two game weekend sweep of their closest South Division pursuers.

At the 14:09 mark of the first period, Dominic Lutz got the fans on their feet when he slid home the rebound of a Ryan O'Connor shot for the 1-0 lead. He added his second of the game at 17:13, going high blocker side from the right circle, assisted by Luka Maver and Beau Dommer. Topeka led 2-0 after one period.

In the second period, Topeka began on a power play and :15 seconds in, Jasen Fernsler tipped home a Daniel Brickley shot and the 'Runners led 3-0. Dominic Lutz had a chance to complete the hat trick when he was awarded a penalty shot at 13:47 because a Wildcat player covered the puck in the crease, but his shot was turned aside by Wildcat goalie Austin Shaw, and the 3-0 lead was intact after 40 minutes.

The Wildcats got a jump start in the 3rd period when Erich Jaegar shoveled home a loose puck at 3:02 to make it a 3-1 hockey game, but Dominic Lutz successfully netted his third goal just :30 seconds later for a 4-1 lead. Jasen Fernsler fired a top shelf power play tally home at 6:47, and Will Scherer followed suit :19 seconds after that for a 6-1 edge. The WIldcats Max Reisinger wristed a shot through a screen at 14:40 to make it 6-2, but with Topeka on a power play after Wildcat Kevin Charyszyn was penalized for charging goalie Matej Tomek, Fernsler posted a hat trick of his own, firing the shot home off the ensuing draw at 17:30 for the 7-2 score that held as the final margin. Tomek stopped 25 of 27 shots for the win, his 14th of the year. The Wildcats were handed back to back losses for the first time this season, and they slip to 9 points back of Topeka in the NAHL South.
