A's Come up Short in London

December 28, 2014 - National Basketball League of Canada (NBL Canada)
Orangeville A's News Release

LONDON, ON.- The Brampton A's fell 118-109 to the London Lightning on the road Saturday night. Brampton now moves to 6-8 on the season.

The London Lightning began the game with a 6-0 start that quickly which prompted a timeout by Coach Magley and the Brampton A's. Brampton regrouped and took to the floor with a new plan and mindset as they went on a 8-3 run to shift momentum from London and its fans. The A's attacked and defended well enough to get within 2 points of the Lightning lead after a Cavell Johnson block and a put back basket by TyShwan Edmondson midway through the first half.

The A's managed to find an offensive flow sparked by a hot handed Bryson Johnson who granted Brampton its first lead of the game with 4:30 to go in the stint. Brampton headed to the locker room with a the slight 55-54 advantage as they held London to under 40 percent shooting from the field. C. Johnson led the A's with 12 points while Brent Jennings added 10 points at the break. Marvin Phillips, Emmanuel Little, and Al Stewart notched 11 points apiece for the Lightning.

Brampton struggled in the third quarter as London managed to go on a run that gave them a seven point advantage. The A's received a much needed offensive surge by Akeem Scott who knocked down a shot from beyond the arc to regain a one point lead. The A's edge soon turned to 10 points as Brampton broke 100 points with less than five minutes of play. Despite appearing to be in control nearing the end of play, an unbalanced rebounding effort of 71-47 in favour of the Lightning provided one to many second chance opportunities for the home team. The A's soon found themselves down again battling against an energized Lightning team.

Although the teams were closely matched in terms of field goal shooting percentages, the game also came down to a battle at the free throw line as the A's converted 11-of-15, and London capitalized on 37-of-51.

Jennings led the A's with 19 points and eight rebounds. Al Stewart of the Lightning recorded a game-high 27 points.

Brampton will travel to Windsor on New Years day for a 7pm contest against the Express. A live stream of the fresh 2015 action will be available via www.bramptonas.ca. The A's will return home to the Powerade Centre on Saturday, January 3, 2015 to host the Mississauga Power. For ticket information please email tickets@bramptonas.ca.
