Reading Fightin Phils News Release

Philadelphia Phillies players Ken Giles, Domonic Brown, and Ben Revere will join manager Ryne Sandberg as guests of honor for the 2015 Phillies Winter Banquet on Tuesday, January 20th at the Crowne Plaza Reading Hotel starting at 6:30 p.m. with doors opening at 5:30 p.m. for a cocktail hour.

Seating and table reservations for the annual event benefitting Baseballtown Charities are available now by calling 610-370-BALL, logging on Fightins.com, or by stopping by the Fightins Ticket Office located at FirstEnergy Stadium. Individual tickets for annual event cost $65 and table reservations of 10 people for the banquet cost $500.

The event also features the crowning of the 2015 King of Baseballtown Kevin Devera, who currently serves as the Director of the Olivet RBI Baseball Program and Impact Director of Health, Wellness, and Athletics for the Olivet Boys & Girls Club of Reading.

Giles comes back to Baseballtown after setting radar guns ablaze during his breakout 2014 season. In 13 games with the Fightins last season, "100 Miles" Giles struck out 29 batters to just five walks over 15 innings while consistently hitting 100 mph with his infamous fastball. Giles earned a promotion to Triple-A Lehigh Valley on May 9 and then a call-up to Philadelphia on June 7th.

The 24-year old continued his sensational season with the Phillies and became one of the National Leagues best arms, going 3-1 with a 1.18 ERA in 44 appearances. Giles made history on Sept. 1 after striking out the side in the 8th inning as part of a combined no-hitter against the Atlanta Braves. He later capped off his rookie season by finishing fourth in the National League Rookie of the Year balloting.

A 2009-10 Reading alum, Brown was selected to his first National League All-Star team in 2013 after hitting 23 home runs before the All-Star Break, the second-most by a Phillies player 25 years old or younger. By the end of the season, Brown hit .272 with a team-leading 27 home runs and 83 RBIs. During both of his seasons in Reading, he was the Phillies number-one prospect according to Baseball America and hit a collective .303 (116-for-383) with 18 home runs and 67 RBIs at the Double-A level. Drafted in 2006 out of Redan High School in Georgia, the 27-year old Brown was also a Paul Owens Award recipient in 2010 as the best player in the Phillies minor league system.

Revere had a standout 2014 season and led the National League with 184 hits and finished fifth with a .306 batting average. He also found himself third among N.L. leaders in stolen bases with 49 last season. The 26-year old was acquired by the Phillies from the Minnesota Twins prior to the 2013 season in exchange for a pair of right-handed pitchers - 2009-10 alum Vance Worley and 2012 alum Trevor May. He was originally selected by the Twins in the first round of the 2007 draft.

Proceeds from the event benefit Baseballtown Charities, a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization founded to keep baseball alive in Reading through programs that honor the city's rich baseball history and secure its future by giving more kids the opportunity to play and learn from the game's life lessons. Since being founded in 2006, the organization constructed Gordon Hoodak Stadium at Lauer's Park, a $900,000 youth ballpark that sits on the grounds of Lauer's Park Elementary, in 2006 and added $90,000 in renovations to Baer Park in 2013.

The Fightin Phils will kick off their home schedule on Thursday, April 17th when the team hosts the Richmond Flying Squirrels at FirstEnergy Stadium. Season tickets, mini-plans, and group tickets for 2015 can be purchased online at Fightins.com, by phone at 610-370-BALL, and in-person by visiting the Fightins Ticket Office at FirstEnergy Stadium.
