Rivermen Battle for 4th Straight Win

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - The Peoria Rivermen won a defensive affair for their fourth straight victory, a 2-1 triumph over the Huntsville Havoc on Saturday night at Von Braun Center.
The Rivermen used the game's first power play to take an early lead as Matt Summers redirected a Nick Schneider drive from the high slot also assisted by Jordan Sims with 10:56 elapsed in the contest.
Peoria took a 2-0 lead with 12:51 left in regulation when Josh Harris won a battle for the puck on the right wing and handed to Sims, who wristed a goal from the dot. The Havoc used a power play with 7:59 left to cut the Rivermen lead to 2-1 on a rebound goal into an open net by Dane Erickson on assists from Jarred Mohr and Jordan Foreman. The Havoc emptied their net for an extra attacker for the final 1:01 but came up empty.
Kyle Rank stopped 28 shots for the win while Jesse Kallechy took the loss with 25 saves. The Rivermen were 1-for-2 on power plays while the Havoc were 1-for-3 with a man advantage.
The Rivermen (13-5-2, 28 points) remain in second place in the Southern Professional Hockey League, two points behind Pensacola. The Havoc (3-11-3, 9 points) have not recorded a win in their last 11 games.
The Rivermen return to action on home ice on Friday and Saturday next weekend at 7:05 each evening against the Columbus Cottonmouths. Coca-Cola Finally Friday features two tickets for only $20 and Saturday's activities include the induction of Darren Maloney into the Rivermen Hall of Fame.
