Norfolk Admirals News Release

NORFOLK, Va. - Quickness and intensity were keys coming into this game for the Norfolk Admirals, and Max Friberg used both on a late goal to top the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, 2-1, at Scope on Saturday night.

Antoine Laganiere put the Admirals on the board on a play that started with Joseph Cramarossa jumping up to the blueline to keep the puck inside Bridgeport's zone. Laganiere gained possession at the right hashmarks and put a backhand top shelf behind netminder Kevin Poulin for his fifth point in three games. Dave Steckel and Andrew O'Brien received the assists at 8:07 of the first period to give Norfolk the 1-0 lead.

With only 28.2 seconds remaining in the opening frame, Bridgeport's Ryan Pulock took a slapper from just below the right circle. Pulock's marker over Gibson's shoulder was unassisted and tied the game, 1-1, going into the intermission.

Nearly halfway into the third period while on the power play, the Admirals once again broke a deadlock. Although Poulin stopped Brendan Bell's initial slap shot from the point, he let up a big rebound. Ready at the hashmarks, Max Friberg pounced on the puck and buried it to give the Admirals a 2-1 advantage. Brendan Bell and Wagner were credited with the assists at 11:34.

Despite pulling Poulin with two minutes left, the Sound Tigers couldn't tie up the contest, and the Admirals skated to a 2-1 win.

Poulin stopped 29-of-31 shots, while Gibson made 30 saves on 31 shots. Jason LaBarbera entered the game with under 10 minutes remaining due to an undisclosed injury to Gibson, and turned aside all 10 attempts he faced.

The Sound Tigers went 0-for-5 on the power play, and the Admirals went 1-for-3 with the man-advantage.

Norfolk next goes on a three-game road trip after the holidays, when they visit Lehigh Valley, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton and Hershey.
