Off-Season Moves Involve Former Naturals

December 19, 2014 - Texas League (TL1)
Northwest Arkansas Naturals News Release

SPRINGDALE, Ark. -- Two former high-profile Northwest Arkansas Naturals will have new homes come the 2015 baseball season. 2013 American League Rookie of the Year and 2011 Natural Wil Myers has been shipped to San Diego as one of the center pieces in a trade-filled off-season for the Padres, while 2010 Natural and former Texas League Champion Johnny Giavotella has been traded to the Los Angeles Angels for RHP Brian Broderick.

Myers, now on his third organization since being drafted in the third round by Kansas City in 2009, has played the last two years with the Tampa Bay Rays. The 24-year old outfielder was part of a three-team, 11-player trade involving Washington, Tampa Bay and San Diego. The trio of organizations finalized the deal earlier this week.

Giavotella, 27, spent the majority of the 2014 campaign playing as an integral part of the Triple-A Omaha Storm Chasers National Championship team. The infielder was a key player on the 2010 Naturals Championship team hitting .322 with 8 home runs and 65 RBI with 34 doubles. Giavotella has played a total of 125 MLB games over the course of the past four years.

Other former Naturals to sign with other clubs earlier this week were free agent and 2010 Texas League Triple Crown winner, Clint Robinson with the Washington Nationals while former Natural Mario Lisson also signed with Washington.
