Caps Look for Home & Home Sweep of Cedar Rapids

Madison, WI- The Madison Capitols (11-8-4) will look to head into the holiday break on a winning streak as they host the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders (20-5-0) on Friday at the Alliant Energy Center at 7 p.m.

It is the second game in as many nights in a true home & home series between the two squads. Madison took the front end, 5-2 on Thursday at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena, thanks to two-goal nights from Chad Pietroniro and Freddy Gerard.

In net, Darren Smith picked up his 7th victory of the season, registering 23 saves. Gerard's two goals elevated him to team leadership, as he became the first Capitol to hit double figures in goals, with ten. The 20-year-old Ohio State commit has also scored six goals in his last five games since announcing his NCAA commitment.

The RoughRiders received their two goals on Thursday from Erik Foley, his 11th and 12th markers of the year.

The two teams combined to receive just one power play chance on Thursday, as Cedar Rapids struck in the middle period for the game's lone man-up goal.

In addition to Gerard's strong play of late, Mitch Hults extended his point streak to seven games with an assist on Thursday. In all, the Caps have won four straight games away from home.

Friday marks another $1 Beer Night at the Coliseum. Fans 21 and over can enjoy the dollar beverages from 6 p.m. through the first intermission in either of the two downstairs beer gardens. The Capitols next take to the ice after the Christmas holiday, on Sat., Dec. 27 in Green Bay against the Gamblers. Madison then returns home on Monday and Tuesday, Dec. 29-30 for a pair of 7 p.m. matchups with Muskegon and Green Bay respectively.
