Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks News Release

FARGO, ND - The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks have made a flurry of roster moves in the last couple days, as the club re-signed RHP Brian Ernst and INF Frank Salerno and acquired OF Buddy Sosnoskie from the Florence Freedom of the Frontier League for cash and a player to be named later. In addition, RHP Nate Garcia has been released after indicating his intention to retire from professional baseball.

Ernst, 23, was 9-6 with a 4.72 ERA in 20 starts for the RedHawks in 2014 and led the club in pitching victories. He pitched 116.1 innings and allowed 64 runs (61 earned) on 118 hits. Ernst struck out 80 batters and walked 68. 2015 will mark Ernst's third season with the RedHawks. He originally signed with the club in 2013 out of East Stroudsburg (PA) University and was 7-2 with a 4.34 ERA in 13 starts as a true rookie that season.

Salerno, 23, joined the RedHawks late in the 2014 season and batted .327 with five doubles, one home run, ten RBIs and 10 runs scored in 12 games. He also stole three bases and saw action at both shortstop and second base. The New City, NY native played college baseball at St. Thomas Aquinas (NY) College from 2010-2013.

Sosnoskie, 25, appeared in 53 games for Florence in 2014. He missed a large portion of the season due to a broken finger. Sosnoskie batted .236 with 12 doubles, one triple, five home runs, 24 RBIs and 31 runs scored for the Freedom last season.

Sosnoskie began his professional career with the RedHawks in 2012 after signing with the club out of Francis Marion (SC) University. In 53 games, he batted .339 with 18 doubles, two triples, two home runs, 31 RBIs and 35 runs scored. He returned to Fargo-Moorhead in 2013 and hit .246 with six doubles, five triples, eight home runs, 37 RBIs and 36 runs scored in 90 games. He was traded to the St. Paul Saints following the 2013 season.

Garcia was 0-4 with a 4.76 ERA and 18 saves for the RedHawks in 2014. He signed with the club last spring after being released out of the Tampa Bay Rays organization, where he had spent four seasons.
