Soo Greyhounds News Release

GUELPH, ON- The Soo Greyhounds were minus seven regulars to start of their Western Conference swing on Thursday Night when they headed into Guelph.

There, they would go to overtime for the fourth time this season before David Miller's goal at 1:17 of the extra frame that would lift them to a 3-2 win over the Storm.

Midway through the first period the Storm would have two solid chances including a stop on Chris Marchese that would keep the game scoreless.

Quickly after though, Guelph would open the scoring at the 11:12 mark.

After the initial point shot was stopped by JOSEPH RAAYAMAKERS, the rebound was quickly picked up by Tyler Bertuzzi who netted his 20th goal of the year for a 1-0 lead.

The lead lasted under three minutes before BRYAN MOORE pulled the Hounds even.

Just as a Guelph penalty had expired, GABE GUERTLER fed a lateral pass over to the overage winger who fired blocker side for his 13th goal of the year and a 1-1 tie. GUERTER and KYLE JENKINS picked up the assists.

With just under nine minutes to go a three-way passing play between JARED MCCANN, BLAKE SPEERS ended with ZACH SENYSHYN ringing a shot off the post to keep the game tied. Two of those three would factor in late in the period giving the Hounds the lead.

At 17:11, MCCANN led a 2-on-1 in the zone setting up SENYSHYN who would go glove side on Justin Nichols for a 2-1 lead after twenty minutes.

The Hounds outshot Guelph 21-10 in the period.

The second period would go scoreless but both sides had numerous quality chances.

After starting the period on the power play, ZACH SENYSHYN tried to tuck the puck low and then minutes later JEAN DUPUY stickhandled to the net before putting the puck back through the blue ice untouched by anyone and the game remained tied.

DAVID MILLER fired a shot off the post three minutes in, but would capitalize in a big way later on the

night.

Around the midway point of the period JOSEPH RAAYMAKERS stopped Tyler Bertuzzi in tight before the net was was dislodged whistling down the play.

BORIS KATHCHOUK and Noah Carroll would be ejected seconds later after the two dropped the mitts right off a face-off.

The Hounds would limit Guelph to just three shots against in the first sixteen minutes of the period, and JEAN DUPUY had a late breakaway trying to factor into the scoring, but the teams exited the period with the Hounds holding the 2-1 lead.

Guelph would tie the game early in the third period when Luke Cairns roofed a shot off the left wing at 1:28 to tie the game at two.

The Hounds looked to respond minutes later when JACK KOPACKA fed HAYDEN VERBEEK to the left of Justin Nichols but was stopped by the Guelph net minders pads.

At the other end of the ice RAAYMAKERS turned aside Tyler Boston with one of his 22 saves on the night.

And then a stop with 14.4 seconds to go on Tyler Bertuzzi kept the game tied and send the two teams to overtime.

Under two minutes in to the extra session (1:17) the first shot against Nichols was stopped before the puck came back to COLTON WHITE who sent it over to DAVID MILLER who deposited past the right side of Nichols for the 3-2 Greyhound victory.

The win improved the Hounds to 25-6-02, heading into their final game before the Christmas break.
